Active Living Staircases: Steps Towards Better Health

The Active Living Staircases illustrate how spatial planning can positively influence occupant behaviour and promote healthier lifestyles. Strategically located beside lift lobbies, the staircases are designed to encourage their use as an attractive alternative to lifts for short-distance travel.

The staircases are colour-coded according to their respective tower lobbies, enabling them to function as both wayfinding elements and architectural features. This dual-purpose design enhances navigation while encouraging physical activity among staff, patients and visitors. From a TBPD perspective, the staircases demonstrate how circulation spaces can contribute to occupant wellness, user experience and building functionality through thoughtful design interventions.
