The Event Plaza: A Canvas of Vibrant Community

During the site visit, it was observed that Woodlands Hospital has integrated community-focused spaces into the healthcare campus to strengthen the connection between the hospital and its surrounding neighbourhood. A prominent feature is the Event Plaza, which serves as an active social and community hub within the campus.

The plaza features a large mural by local artist Yip Yew Chong depicting the heritage and evolution of Woodlands, incorporating familiar community scenes, local landmarks, and future developments such as the Rapid Transit System (RTS). Beyond its artistic value, the mural enhances the sense of place and community identity, creating a welcoming environment that encourages social interaction and engagement.

The Event Plaza also supports a variety of community activities, including health talks, wellness programmes, performances, and public events. From a TBPD perspective, the space demonstrates how healthcare facilities can extend beyond clinical functions to promote community participation, social well-being, and inclusiveness.
